Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Feb 10th, 2009, 12:08pm

DON'T GET TOO EXCITED AS IT'S NOT OPENED YET

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is scheduled to open in early 2010.

Location:

At the Islands of Adventure theme park, part of the Universal Orlando resort in Florida. Universal is touting the new "island" as a "theme park within a theme park." The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will occupy a previously undeveloped area at the park as well as part of the land that currently hosts the Lost Continent (home of the Dueling Dragons coaster).

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter Admission Info:

Entrance to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be included in the general admission to Islands of Adventure.
Attractions Planned for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter:
At its initial announcement of the project, Universal didn't offer many details about the actual rides and attractions planned for the Potter land. This much is known: There will be multiple attractions, including one that the park promises will be "state-of-the-art." Industry rumors indicate that the signature ride will use robotic arms (such as the ones used for the Knight's Tournament Robocoaster at Legoland California) to take passengers on a flying car ride. It's also likely that the Dueling Dragons coaster will be imbued with the Potter theme.

Fans of one of the most beloved series of books and films will be able to visit J.K. Rowling's fanciful lands and characters when The Wizarding World of Harry Potter comes to Universal Orlando. Universal says that the land won't be based on any one book or film, but rather be an amalgam of the Potter oeuvre. Looming high above the new land will be the iconic Hogwarts castle, where guests will be able to venture inside and around its, um, hallowed grounds.
Other elements of the land will include Hogsmeade village (which, according to preview images released by Universal, will apparently be covered in snow--an interesting challenge for the sun-dappled Florida resort) and the Forbidden Forest. In addition to the attractions, there will be shops and restaurants (I'd imagine guests might be able to tip a pint at The Leaky Cauldron) amid the 20-acre immersive environment.

It's unclear what role J. K. Rowling, who obviously had to give her blessing to the project, will play in the development of the land and attractions. Warner Bros., which owns the film rights, is partnering with Universal in bringing the Potter world to life at Islands of Adventure.

Can't wait to see what it is like

Has anyone actually been to the Harry Potter world yet.  They are plugging it loads on TV here in the UK.  My son who is 21 and an avid Harry Potter fan, having grown up with him really wants to come with us on next trip because of this.

It's not open yet Sue although you can see a turret when you drive past Universal.   According to the web site it is due to open in the Spring so shouldn't be long now.

Personally can't stand Harry Potter Shocked - not a popular view I know  Sad

My son is also wanting to visit despite being 21 he still loves HP.  Hope we can make it in October too as I always like that time of year to visit generally.  Look forward to hearing reviews on this forum about the HP world.

Hi  Smiley
Does anyone know if you can have a look around the Harry Potter world before it officially opens?
My friend comes home on the 14th June and was wondering if she would be allowed in.

Thanks

Just looked on you tube and the lines for HP are horrific at the moment.  I think we will be waiting a while before visiting this world until the fuss dies down.

Smiley We visited Harry Potter at Universal last week and the lines were really long for everything. We waited in line for 2 hrs to get into Ollivander's Wand shop. But the kids were delighted to get their wands, even though the wait in the 95 degree heat was very hard for them! The line for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey was an hour and a half. We ended up having to give this ride a miss which I was really disappointed about. But none of us felt able to line up again for that long. We probably should have done that one first or come back on another day.
The Dragon Challenge only had a 10 min wait time and the boys and men in our family loved it even though they all came off it with jelly legs. Not for the faint hearted!
It might be best to do this park over two days so that you don't feel as if you spent the whole time waiting in line. If it wasn't so hot it might be easier.
Overall it really looks incredible! If you don't want to line up for Bertie Botts Every flavour Beans, or Chocolate Frogs at Honeydukes you can buy these at the gift store in Universal CityWalk! But they only sell the wands at Ollivanders!
It's definitely worth a visit, just be prepared for huge crowds Smiley

Sue,

We were there the other day and the lines are terrible.  The Universal Express Plus tickets are not valid for any of the HP rides.  You would think that an extra $67 each (on top of your entrance fee) they would be  Sad Sad Sad

Douglas
